Coal (コール Kōru?) is a male capybara Jewelpet and the thirty-ninth Jewelpet in the franchise overall. He represents Endurance and Perseverance.
Appearance[]
Coal is a capybara with an ash brown body and dark brown, stubby paws. His Jewel Eyes are made out of dark purple coals. For his attire, he wears a necklace made out of black coals and white beads resembling prayer beads around his neck.
In quite a few episodes of Jewelpet Kira☆Deco!, he also appears in disguise as Coarumi, a "female teacher" who attracts students with "her" good looks and charm.
Charm Form[]
Coal's Jewel Charm is brown and square-shaped with white stripes, a pink heart and a blue diamond-shaped gem in the center. It also has Coal's black and white bead necklace.
Personality[]
According to the official website, Coal is depicted as a patient type of Jewelpet who loves to gnaw on leaves by the riverside and is always ready for a challenge.
In Jewelpet Kira☆Deco!, Coal is often evil-minded and cold-hearted. He is also a very diligent and hard worker and is the type of Jewelpet that gets humiliated very easily. He often fails at trying to achieve what he does, making him endure through it all.
In Jewelpet Magical Change, Coal, while not evil, he is portrayed as a big bully, who bullies the weak and those who perform better than him.
In most series, Coal often ends his phrases with "yami".
Skills[]
As the Jewelpet of Endurance, Coal's magic spells allow humans to greatly endure pain or injuries and remain active for a long time. Also being the Jewelpet of Perseverance, his magic makes humans stay determined despite the difficult challenges they are facing.
Coal's skills in Jewelpet Kira☆Deco! aren't very good, but when they are at its peak, they can give off great damage.
History[]
In Jewelpet Kira☆Deco![]
Coal is a member of the Decoranain and the show's most active antagonist. He answers directly to the Dark General, a man that he considers his father. On his mission to get the Deco Stones and corrupt them with darkness, he enlists the help of Opal and Io, who hate Ruby and her friends. Although he loves to boast that darkness is his only mistress, his continuous failures and humiliations eventually catch up to him.
In the series he uses the disguise Coarumi.
Coal was born from the tar that was stuck to Dark General's boot.[1]
In Jewelpet Happiness[]
Coal works as a therapist and a spa massager. He doesn't have much of a role until episode 37, where he finds a doll and names it Angel, not knowing that it has been corrupted by the Red Moon.
In Lady Jewelpet[]
He appears briefly in episode 5, where he is shown massaging for Sapphie.

- Coal's jewel motif is the coal, a type of fossil fuel.
- Coal's appearance and personality is a tribute to Baku, a character from Studio Comet's previous Sanrio series Onegai My Melody.
- He mentions having a mother in Jewelpet Happiness, but it is unknown if she is a Jewelpet or not.[2]
- Coal is one of the few Jewelpets to have his Jewel Charm introduced after the first season.
- Despite being introduced along with Granite before Rosa - who had her Jewel Charm introduced in Jewelpet Kira☆Deco! - his Jewel Charm was only reaveled outside of the series in official characters books.
- Coal shares the same birthday date with Crow Hogan from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's.
- Depending on the seasons we can get different descriptions of Coal power: darkness (Jewelpet KiraDeco) endurance, perceverance, patience (official character book)
